FIREFIGHTERS COATS FOR KIDS, PITTSBURGH FIRE FIGHTERS TO PROVIDE
BRAND NEW WINTER COATS TO CHILDREN IN NEED
Pushing Back Against the Cycle of Poverty and Serving the Children in our Community

(PittsburghNewsWire.com) PITTSBURGH, PA – The Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No.1, are hosting the 3rd annual Firefighters Coats for Kids Program, helping local children in need. Together with Operation Warm, the members of Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No.1 are working to provide warm, winter coats to elementary school-aged children in need.
We are able to reach nearly 1,700 children from the following schools this year: Greenfield, Mifflin, Colfax, Minadeo, Conroy Education Center, Spring Hill, Concord, Propel (Hazelwood), Faison, Kelly and Turner elementary schools in Wilkinsburg. This is made possible thanks to donations made from Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, Range Resources, Diehl Automotive of Robinson, MSA, Bigham Tavern, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66, and Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No.1.
“Every child deserves a warm coat for winter,” said Ralph Sicuro President of Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No.1, “We believe giving back to the communities we work in and live in is part of our core mission as firefighters.”
Families struggling to meet the most basic needs must often put food and shelter before proper winter clothing, leaving children literally, in the cold. As firefighters working on the front line we witness the level of poverty many others can’t understand.
With a diminishing manufacturing sector in the United States we are proud to announce these coats are American made by union workers.
Firefighters and sponsors will be available for interviews on event day, scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10:00am. We will be accepting monitary donations or people wishing to donate can visit www.operationwarm.org/pittsburgh that day as well but we do not accept clothing.
For more information, call Ralph Sicuro (412) 523-0111. Pittsburgh Fire Fighters IAFF Local No.1 is committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of disability in all county programs, services and activities.
