Local Pittsburgh kids are banding together to thank local Military members and their families this Christmas.
Every Christmas through it’s “Bridges” not for profit support program, 3 Rivers grants the Santa Wish Lists of a number of local children in need. This year the “Bridges Kids Club” – which allows children to participate in the companies many service projects throughout the year will also host a Christmas Winter Carnival for local Military members and their families.
61 children between the ages of 5 and 19 have signed up to participate in Operation Santa 2014. Each child participating was asked to earn $25 to donate toward the expense of the Santa list items for the child’s Santa wishlisht they were assigned. Parents were encouraged to have their children earn the $25 themselves by doing extra chores at home or for family & neighbors, rather than the parent just donating the funding. Each child received a letter from Team Santa with a Santa Wishlist of a military child containing 3 items. They were asked to select an item to purchase and bring it wrapped for the carnival. Bridges Kids Club members will help Santa give out the gifts the day of the carnival and will help run all of the games, crafts and carnival.
Military members serving in local units of the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines along with their families will play carnival games for prizes, have refreshments such as corndogs, popcorn, cotton candy & snow cones, do crafts such as spin art and decorating their own cocoa mug, visit our caricaturist and balloon artists, bounce in the moon bounce, have their face painted or get a shimmer tattoo and visit the big man Santa himself. When visiting Santa they will receive a gift from the Santa wishlist they submitted. There will even be a surprise visit of the Winter Princesses from Pittsburgh Fairytale Princess Visits at the start of the party.
There was no cost for the military families to attend however some of the military units coordinating the guest lists asked for a $5 RSVP admission fee per child attending. The RSVP money collected will be kept with the unit and go to the Family Support Fund for use at a later time. The carnival is funded entirely by TRWMG, TRTABS, the Bridges Kids Club and the support of the Embassy Suites Pittsburgh Airport location who generously donated the use of their ballroom space for the event.
Last year Operation Santa granted the Santa Wish Lists of 32 Pittsburgh children, this year Operation Santa will grant the wishlists over 135 local Pittsburgh children. To find out more about Operation Santa 2014 and the Bridges Kids Club visit www.trwmg.com/bridges.
