IT’S A BI-COASTAL BEER FACEOFF AS PENN BREWERY WAGERS AGAINST
SAN JOSE’S HERMITAGE BREWERY ON A STANLEY CUP VICTORY

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Call it the “Stanley Pint Glass” tournament. Or the “Penn stands by the Pens series.” Whatever the name, Penn Brewery is wagering big time against San Jose’s Hermitage Brewing on the outcome of the NHL’s hockey’s championship series. Penn is placing its bets firmly behind a Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup win, while Hermitage is backing its hometown team, the San Jose Sharks.

“The Sharks are going down,” said Gene Mangrum, General Manager of Penn Brewery restaurant. “We’re encouraging our guests to order Penn Dark and Penn Gold to show our black & gold support for the Pens. That will make it happen.”

The stakes are indeed high. The losing brewery must buy a five-gallon keg of the winning brewery’s beer, as well as Stanley Cup champion t-shirts for its staff. The loser must then offer a flight-size sample of the winner’s beer to each guest who enters the losing city’s establishment on the day of the Stanley Cup parade. Those serving the samples, along with the brewmaster and tap room manager, must wear the t-shirts.

Penn will be showing all of the Stanley Cup games on large-screen televisions at the restaurant  so guests can cheer the Pens (and Penn) on to victory.

Penn Brewery, opened in 1986, is Pittsburgh’s oldest and largest brewery. It specializes in award-winning handcrafted beers sold in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, and West Virginia.  The Brewery is located in Deutschtown on Pittsburgh’s North Side, in the mid nineteenth-century landmark E&O Brewery Building.
