MANY DEBUT MOMENTS FOR WINE TIME AT THE COLONY JUNE 16TH EVENT
A Winner From the Largest Competition of American Wines in the World to Attend
SAXONBURG, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — A large number of wines will be making their first public appearance as 16 wineries uncork their newest releases at this year’s Wine Time at the Colony event.  Located on the Penn’s Colony grounds just minutes north of Pittsburgh at 365 Saxonburg Blvd., Saxonburg, PA, Wine Time will run from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16.  A rare vintage from the Carmenere grape will be available for the first time in the region exclusively at Wine Time, which includes specialty food purveyors and juried artists in an outdoor festival lined with shade trees and dining areas.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from New York winery 21 Brix will make its debut at Wine Time.  Kris Kane, co-owner and winemaker at 21 Brix Winery (Portland, NY), is among the top 100 most influential winemakers in the United States according to IntoWine.com.  His Cabernet Sauvignon (2011) won the Best in Class Bronze at the San Francisco Chronical Wine Competition (2013), which is the largest competition of American wines in the world with nearly 6,000 wines entered annually. “The fact that a Lake-Erie-grown cabernet sauvignon grape placed so highly among California wines is a noteworthy achievement,” said event spokesperson Beth Rush.
First time attendee, Four Twelve Winery (Moon Township) will be making a double debut at Wine Time with its Carmenere wine, a rare vintage with a storied past. The Carmenere grape originated in Bordeaux, France, yet now grows almost exclusively in Chile.  “Originally, Carmenere was thought to be Merlot when it was first transplanted into Chile,” said co-owner and winemaker Kevin Romasco who imports the grapes from Chile to make the wine.  “This is not a vintage you commonly see from other winemakers,” Rush added. “Wine Time will be the exclusive opportunity in our region to experience Carmenere.”
Winery at Wilcox will attend for the first time and join established Pennsylvania-vineyards Courtyard Winery, Deer Creek Winery, Greenhouse Winery, Mazza, Volant Winery and Wilhelm Winery.  Additional wineries are Allegheny Cellars, BeeKind Winery, Groundhog Winery, Kingview Mead, La Vigneta, Mazzotta Winery and Wapiti Ridge Winery.
Jimmy Sapienza and Five Guys Named Moe will perform.  Food purveyors offer a selection of light menu food and small batch items for sale.  Fine artists and craftsmen offer handmade works in a select juried marketplace.  Admission is $25 and includes a souvenir wine glass. Designated driver admission is $5. All visitors must be over 21 with valid ID.  For tickets and information visit WineTimeAtTheColony.com or call 724-352-9922.
