WORLD CHAMPION BOXER BRINGS ROCK STEADY BOXING FOR PEOPLE WITH PARKINSON’S TO PITTSBURGH AND EASTERN SUBURBS
NORTH VERSAILLES, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Rock Steady Boxing, a unique exercise program, based on training used by boxing pros, and adapted to people with Parkinson’s disease, will now be available in the North Versailles area, serving the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh. The program involves regular exercises, such as stretching, bicycling, running, jump-roping, push-ups, balancing and lots of non-contact boxing, led by experienced trainers/coaches.  Rock Steady Boxing serves both men and women of all ages and levels of ability.
Steve Cunningham, a professional fighter and former 2-time World Champion is the owner of USS Fight Academy and is responsible for bringing Rock Steady Boxing to the area.
“When we opened the USS Fight Academy my dream was to take everything I learned over the last 18 years in boxing and use it to help people.  We opened with adult classes, youth classes and weight loss challenges and now we are so fortunate and really excited to be able to bring this program to our gym to help the Parkinson’s community,” said Steve, who along with his wife Livvy, successfully completed the Rock Steady Boxing Training Camp, and is certified to offer Rock Steady Boxing training classes to individuals with Parkinson’s disease who live in the area.  Classes are available now at the USS Fight Academy.
The USS Fight Academy opened in January 2018 with the focus of making top quality boxing training available to everyone.  They offer daily boxing bootcamp style classes for adults as well as a youth program with classes twice a week.  Additionally they offer a 6 week weight loss challenge that has been producing amazing results.  The classes are open to men and women at all levels of fitness and there is no boxing experience required.
The Rock Steady Boxing Method was developed in Indianapolis over the course of seven years.  In 2012, the Training Camp was launched to share the Rock Steady Boxing Method with other people who are fighting back against Parkinson’s.  Today, there are 470 Rock Steady Boxing affiliates around the world, initiated by certified Rock Steady Boxing “Coaches.”
“We have always believed in the Rock Steady Boxing Method,” said Rock Steady Boxing, Inc. Executive Director Joyce Johnson.  “When evidence began to emerge that our program had a very positive impact on the ‘boxers’, our mission became clear — to share our knowledge and experience with all people with Parkinson’s.  That is why we decided to make our training available worldwide — to train as many as we can so together we can improve the care of people with Parkinson’s everywhere.”
It is estimated that 1-1.5 million Americans have Parkinson’s disease, with as many as (estimated number) diagnosed in (city).  Steve is excited to glove and fight back against Parkinson’s.
