FINALISTS FOR 2018 KATE DEWEY LIFETIME
ACHIEVEMENT AWARD REVEALED
Local Jefferson Awards Foundation Nominees Are Life-Long Servant-Leaders
PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — On Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 5:30 pm a private reception was held at Federal Gallery on Pittsburgh’s Northside to announce the five Finalists of the Jefferson Awards Foundation Pittsburgh’s 2018 Kate Dewey Award for Lifetime Achievement in Public Service. The Jefferson Awards Foundation (JAF), the nation’s longest-standing organization dedicated to powering and celebrating public service,  dedicated the Award to Ms. Dewey in 2017 in tribute to her life of service supporting organizations and individuals that better our communities. Now, each spring JAF accepts local nominations from the community to honor and recognize other individuals from Allegheny County with this prestigious award for meritorious lifetime service. This year’s Finalists (in alphabetical order) are:
  • G. Reynolds “Renny” Clark, Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff, Community Initiatives, University of Pittsburgh (recently retired)
  • Larry E. Davis, Ph.D., Dean Emeritus, Donald M. Henderson Chair; Director, Center on Race and Social Problems
  • Leo W. Gerard, International President, USW
  • Magdeline E. Jensen, CEO, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh (recently retired)
  • Terri Minor-Spencer, Founder, West End P.O.W.E.R.
Nominations were reviewed over the summer by an independent Selectors Committee comprised of community partners and advisory board members and the field was narrowed down to five Finalists.
“It is a joy to recognize people who are living examples of what making a positive difference in communities looks like. Encouraging our youth – and people everywhere – to follow in their footsteps has never been more important,” said Jodi S. Klebick, Jefferson Awards Foundation Pittsburgh Regional Executive Director. “The Jefferson Awards are proud to honor these amazing individuals who’ve dedicated their lives to serving others.”
On Thursday, November 3, 2018 at Nova Place, one finalist will receive the Kate Dewey Award as a highlight of JAF’s 2018 Time-Honored party, an annual fundraiser to benefit their Students In Action (SIA) program. SIA provides no-cost service leadership training designed to empower middle school and high school students to think big, pursue public service, and positively impact their schools and communities. For Time-Honored party details and tickets for the November 3, 2018 event, please visit: www.Time-Honored.org.
