6TH ANNUAL WEEK OF NON VIOLENCE KICK OFF

Black Women For Positive Change (BW4PC) Aims To Reach 25,000+ People
With A Strong Message and Community Action

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Beginning Sunday, October 13 through Sunday, October 21, 2018 Black Women for Positive Change (BW4PC) – Pittsburgh will host the 6th Annual Week of Non Violence.  BW4PC and The Week of Non-Violence are dedicated to Changing the Culture of Violence in Pittsburgh, across the U.S. and the United Kingdom. The 2018 Week of Non Violence kicks off with a Proclamation from City Councilman Anthony Coghill.  Event Honorary Co-Chairs include Pittsburgh Mayor, William Peduto, Allegheny County Health Department Director, Karen Hacker, and Deputy Director, Roderick Harris. Police Chief Schubert and the Violence Prevention Unit wrote an open letter to Clergy in support of the Week of Non Violence. Throughout the week, BW4PC, schools and local community partners will host a variety of free activities including workshops, roundtable discussions and an essay contest for high school and middle school students based on BW4PC film “Drop – A Story of Triumph” which highlights the importance of education and interrupting the school-to-prison pipeline.
Penn Hills, Woodland Hills and South Allegheny School Districts are actively supporting and engaged in the initiative to educate youth about conflict resolution, anger management and acknowledging that there are consequences to our actions. The students and administrators have planned activities throughout the week to expose youth to non-violent approaches and concepts in behavior, writing music and the arts.
The 2018 Week of Non Violence goals are to:
  1. Encourage greater involvement by Faith Institutions in violence prevention and
  2. Promote student leadership and problem solving around peace, alternatives to violence (i.e. meditation, education, job opportunities, etc.).

  1. I am trying to obtain a video produced by Black women for positive change regarding a basketball player who gets two girls pregnant and the grave decisions he makes. We want have several watch parties during NBNA ‘s nonviolence Awareness week October 12-20. Last year I was able to access 3 videos of The DROP. The watch parties were very successful.
