WOMEN WHO ROCK™ BENEFIT CONCERT ANNOUNCES ARTIST LINEUP
Women in Music Unite to Rock the Future of Women’s Health
PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Women will rock Stage AE Pittsburgh on Friday, May 15th, during National Women’s Health Week. Proceeds benefit Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI), based in Pittsburgh, the nation’s largest research institute dedicated solely to women’s health.
An event experience like no other, Women who Rock™ rolls out the pink carpet, featuring an all-female fronted music lineup. This year’s headliner is the legendary Ann Wilson of Heart. One of the greatest voices in the history of rock n’ roll for the past 40 years, Ann Wilson has been lead singer for the rock band Heart (35 million records sold), thrilling audiences with her vocal power and her natural gift. Ann carved out a place for women to dominate a rock stage, and her icon status was cemented when Heart was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
Rita Wilson will guest star this powerful night. Although Rita Wilson is well-known as an actress (It’s Complicated, Sleepless in Seattle, CBS’ The Good Wife, HBO’s Girls) as well as a film producer (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Mamma Mia!), many may be aware that her early show biz ambitions were actually musical. Rita is a critically acclaimed singer/songwriter with a Southern California rock meets Nashville country sound. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Rita turned her experience into inspiration for her music and has used her platform to advocate for breast cancer research.
Sheila E. will be honored live with the 2020 Women who Rock™ Impact Award. “I am honored and humbled to be recognized for the Impact Award. Thank you to Women Who Rock and Magee-Womens Research Institute for the incredible and life changing work you do. When I think of impact, I think of all of the women—mentors, my mother, my grandmother, sisters, colleagues, new and lifelong friends—who have lifted me up throughout the years and continually inspired me to pay it forward.” – Sheila E.
The local artist lineup will feature The Vindys, DJ Femi, and Timbeladies all-female Brazilian percussion ensemble, along with a performance from the Rising Star Contest Winner. Rock DJ Michele Michaels of 102.5FM WDVE will return as the event emcee.
Concert attendees will experience an interactive Beauty Bar offering free beauty perks and giveaways, social sharing Photo Booth, Silent Auction offering a chance to win one-of-a-kind experiences and items, VIP Lounge, and in-show surprises.
Local Steel City Artist and HGTV Design Star, Luca Paganico, will be creating a live piece of art on stage for the auction. Luca’s work can be found across the country from Las Vegas to Miami, much of it in private celebrity homes.
Proceeds from the Women who Rock™ Benefit Concert support Magee-Womens Research Institute, the largest research institute in the U.S. devoted exclusively to women’s health research and reproductive biology. Magee-Womens Research Institute is making discoveries and advancing knowledge in many areas affecting women including: reproductive biology, breast cancer genomics and personalized therapies, HIV immunization and prevention, fertility preservation, and is a recognized leader in clinical pelvic floor research.
