ACLC to Hold Emergency Food Distribution on FRIDAY
Labor Day Weekend of Service to honor frontline workers and highlight organized labor’s commitment to take care of those in need

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — The Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council, in partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Pittsburgh Penguins, will hold an emergency food distribution on FRIDAY from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the PPG Paints Arena parking lot.

The food drive is the first event in the Labor Day Weekend of Service, which was organized after the pandemic forced the cancellation of Pittsburgh’s Labor Day Parade. This will be the latest of several emergency food distributions that ACLC and its partners have hosted since the start of the pandemic.

See below for details about the food drive and the other Weekend of Service events. All events are open to members of the media. Please RSVP to ACLCPress@gmail.com.

Statement from ACLC President Darrin Kelly:

“While we can’t have our usual Labor Day celebrations this year, we are embracing this opportunity to honor the frontline workers who are helping us get through this pandemic and to show what organized labor is all about: serving our communities and taking care of people in need.

“In that same spirit of service and commitment to our communities, we ask that people find some way to give back and help others next weekend in their own communities — whether that’s donating to the Food Bank, organizing a neighborhood clean up, or even the simple, kind gesture of checking on an elderly neighbor. We are all in this together, and it’s never been more important that we all take care of each other.”
