DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES REMINDS PENNSYLVANIANS OF HEALTH COVERAGE AVAILABLE THROUGH CHILDREN’S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM
HARRISBURG, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Teresa Miller today reminded Pennsylvanians of health insurance options available to all children and families across Pennsylvania. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) covers children from birth through age 19 and is an option for high-quality, comprehensive and affordable health insurance for all families, no matter their income.
“Children deserve a strong and healthy childhood, and access to regular health visits and screenings makes that possible,” said Secretary Miller. “CHIP helps kids across Pennsylvania stay healthy so they can focus on learning, growing, and enjoying childhood.”
CHIP provides peace of mind for families by providing coverage for well-child visits, routine and emergency health services, tests and screenings, prescriptions, and vaccinations. CHIP covers dental and vision services for children, and COVID-19 testing and treatment are also covered by CHIP. As of February 2021, more than 167,000 children across Pennsylvania had health insurance coverage through CHIP.
CHIP enrolls throughout the year, so families do not have to sign up during a set period. People needing health coverage for their children can apply for CHIP at any time. Pennsylvanians who have lost health coverage or experienced a change in income due to the pandemic are encouraged to apply for CHIP so their children have quality, affordable coverage during the public health crisis and moving forward.
All children qualify for coverage through CHIP, and monthly costs vary by a family’s income. CHIP may be free for your family, and if not, CHIP plans have a low monthly premium and copays for certain health services.
“As Pennsylvania and the nation face a public health crisis, access to health coverage is more important than ever. CHIP is an option for all PA families, and if your children need coverage or your current coverage is too expensive, I urge you to consider CHIP as an option,” said Secretary Miller. “Our health as kids can affect us into adulthood. Let CHIP help put your kids on track for a healthy life.”
