FAME Fun 5K Run – 1-Mile Walk Event

 

The 5K begins at 9:00 a.m., and the 1-mile fun walk starts at 9:05 a.m. This event is an excellent 5K run for the whole family. Race Day Registration will be available on June 12th at the Boyce Park – Ski Lodge. The FAME Fun 5K Run/Walk race day registration will be open from 7:00 am to 8:45 am.

 

While competition is encouraged, the run helps educate and support families and promotes healthy lifestyles and habits. “Participants have been training for the 5K race, and others plan to walk the 1-mile portion. This event is community and family-oriented.” Strollers are Acceptable in the race, but pets are not allowed.  All race day participants will receive a custom participation medal and a T-shirt.  There will be an award ceremony for the 5K participants immediately following the race. In addition, the first, second, and third place participants, according to age categories and gender, will receive custom awards.

 

A virtual race option allows individuals to run a 5K on their own time and submit the results online. This group of participants will receive a T-shirt but will not be eligible for placement medals. The cost to enter the 5K run is $30, and the cost to enter the 1-Mile walk is $20.

FAME (Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education) is a not-for-profit organization that has provided critical educational resources and merit scholarships to African American students in grades 3-12 in the Greater Pittsburgh area since 1993.

 

FAME’s mission is to educate, empower and encourage African American youth to become student ambassadors of today, leaders of tomorrow, and stewards of their communities by providing access to college-preparatory education at participating independent schools in the Greater Pittsburgh area the provision of need-based financial assistance.

 

The Mommalicious Food Truck will be at the race from 9:00 AM-noon; there will be music and family fun. FAME Alumnus Charles Russell ’14 – DJ Atrix will provide music for the event.
