SOURMASH COMES BACK STRONG FOLLOWING A ROLLERCOASTER YEAR, TO GAIN SEVEN NOMINATIONS FOR THE 10TH ANNUAL JOSIE MUSIC AWARDS IN NASHVILLE

LEECHBURG, PA, June 11, 2024 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — The final list of nominees for the 10th Annual Josie Music Awards were announced this week. Pennsylvania rock act Sourmash received a total of seven nominations in Josie Music Awards categories – Group of the Year, Song of the Year (Die For You), Vocalist of the Year (Tim Henry), and four in Musician of the Year categories for each band member (Henry, Nick Farine, Dave Stanoszek, and Brian Forsha). This is the fourth year in a row that Sourmash has been nominated, amassing 24 nominations in all. The act won Entertainer of the Year in 2021 and returned in 2022 to win two more awards – Duo/Group of the Year and Vocalist of the Year (Henry).

During one of the busiest years in Sourmash history, vocalist Tim Henry began encountering breathing issues while singing in the Spring of 2022. After some tests and doctor visits, two large thyroid tumors had dislocated and constricted his larynx. The vocalist adjusted technique to manage performances so that the band could complete the grueling schedule without missing a show. In November (only three weeks after winning JMA Vocalist of the Year), surgery was performed to remove the thyroid. However, the procedure resulted in major trauma to the vocal cord nerves, leaving a very limited ability to speak and the inability to sing. What was initially to be a 3 – 5 day recovery period, turned into weeks and then months. The expectation to fully heal finally landed at a year from the surgery.

Throughout 2023, Sourmash was unable to perform live while Tim recovered and went through extensive voice therapy. Work in the studio continued and the band released the single, Bluezin’ in April 2023. By the end of 2023, Tim was given the green light to start singing again. However, the band’s drummer announced his retirement, and the search was on for a replacement. Sourmash found veteran musician Brian Forsha and the band quickly began rehearsing and recording. Sourmash returned to live performances early in 2024 and released their most recent single (JMA Nominated) Die For You in April 2024. Also during that time, 2023 JMA Song of the Year nominee Bluezin’ spent 10 weeks on the Hit Tracks Top 100 charts in Europe with 3 weeks in the Top 10 and peaking at #9.

The Josie Music Awards ceremony returns to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville TN and will be held October 27 with pre-gala festivities throughout the weekend. The Josie Music Awards event will include a red carpet entrance, artist performances, award announcements, as well as the JMA Fest. The nomination committee for the JMAs sifted through over 80,000 submissions from around the world to determine the nominees for this year’s event. The Josie Music Awards remains the largest independent artist award show in the world since its inception in 2015.

Sourmash consists of members: Tim Henry (vocalist, guitarist), Nick Farine (guitarist), Dave Stanoszek (bassist), and recent addition Brian Forsha (drummer). Sourmash music has found its way across the globe in both film and television; streaming in 84 countries; and nationally on SiriusXM and AMI & TouchTunes jukeboxes. The act has performed at numerous festivals and motorcycle rallies and has shared the stage with the likes of Blackberry Smoke, Luke Combs, Great White, Saliva, Jackyl, David Allen Coe, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and more.
