BALVANERA PITTSBURGH TOASTS ‘WORLD MALBEC DAY’ WITH A WEEK-LONG CELEBRATION

The acclaimed Argentinian restaurant honors Argentina’s most renowned grape with a week of premium Malbec flights, an Argentine pairing feast and its very first “Introduction to Malbec” wine course

PITTSBURGH, PA, April 9, 2025 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — BALVANERA, the Strip District restaurant serving up regional, Argentinian fare, is inviting guests to raise a glass in celebration of ‘World Malbec Day’ with its own weeklong tribute to the world-famous Argentinian grape. Beginning Monday, April 14th – leading up to internationally celebrated World Malbec Day, Thursday, April 17th, BALVANERA guests will enjoy the city’s largest offering of Malbec wines by the glass, an exclusive Malbec flight – a tasting journey through the regions of Argentina, an incredible Malbec pairing with new and traditional dishes from Chef Fernando Navas, and an inaugural ‘Introduction to Malbec’ wine course.

“BALVANERA is home to the very best Argentine wines – ranging from the world renowned all-stars to the lesser known gems, all deserving of a place at the table and in the larger conversation of what’s relevant in the wine world – especially today,” says Co-Owner and Head Chef, Fernando Navas. “We’re excited to pay homage to my country’s iconic grape during the week-long celebration.”

“Coming from an Old World background, it’s been eye-opening to see what was once considered a rustic grape express itself with elegance and finesse. The possibilities of what Malbec can offer are vast, given the different stylistic choices and terroir of Argentina,” explains BALVANERA General Manager/Sommelier Bill Kohl. “Our weeklong celebration is an invitation for guests to share in our passion for Argentina’s flagship grape.”

ABOUT BALVANERA
BALVANERA is a destination for Argentine food and wine in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Strip District community at The Terminal. The first project of Chef Fernando Navas (Sushi Samba, elBulli, Nobu), BALVANERA opened its first location in 2014 on New York City’s Lower East Side. The restaurant takes its name from a historic ‘barrio’, or  neighborhood, of Buenos Aires where poets, musicians and creatives once convened; it was home to the city’s original meat market, Abasto. BALVANERA’s menu and philosophy are inspired by the nostalgia of Fernando’s Argentine roots, upbringing and the culinary culture he acquired on his journey through Buenos Aires, Barcelona and New York City.
