Kaya Celebrates 30 Years of Endless Summer!

PITTSBURGH, PA, May 15, 2025 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Kaya is excited to be celebrating its 30th birthday with several anniversary events this summer, beginning with the tapping of Kaya Solabration! IPA, a collaboration beer with Strip District neighbors, Cinderlands, on May 16. big Burrito opened Kaya in 1995 as the second of its eight restaurant concepts (first was Mad Mex in Oakland in 1993). Kaya has always been a popular destination with Pittsburghers, serving as an island getaway tucked into the Strip District.
For years, KayaFest, Kaya’s annual street celebration, was held each May on Smallman Street. This year, the party is headed to all of Kaya’s sister restaurants with a big Burrito-wide release of the Cinderlands brew.
A word from Cinderlands:
Solabration! is our west coast IPA collab celebrating our friends at KAYA and their big 30th anniversary. We were munching conch fritters and sipping caipirinhas on their vibrant corner of Smallman Street long before we dreamed of opening the doors to the Cinderlands Warehouse. It’s an honor to make a beer with them designed to complement a perfectly pressed Cuban sandwich or jerk chicken torta. This is a throwback west coast IPA built with Simcoe, Cascade, and Chinook hops with a dollop of Idaho 7 hop oil. We taste honey on toast in a pine grove, built on a solid malt structure with grapefruit oil bitterness and subtle orange marmalade. Aromatic enough to complement tropical fruit and spices, bitter enough to balance tropical drink sweetness, and malty enough to soften through jerk spice.

From June 2 through June 8, the tropical party continues with a throwback menu featuring some much-loved Kaya classics! In 1995 did you say, “See you later alligator?” Well good news: The alligator will see you NOW! Grilled Alligator with guava bbq & chayote slaw is making its way back alongside Jerked Pork & Plantain Nachos and a few other throwback favorites.
