STRENGTHENING THE SOCIAL WORK WORKFORCE: SWAG ALLIANCE FOUNDATION AWARDED STAUNTON FARM CAPACITY GRANT

PITTSBURGH, PA, August 1, 2025 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Social workers are the backbone of community care, but they’re often under-resourced, overworked, and overlooked. The SWAG Alliance Foundation is working to change that. We’re proud to announce that we have been awarded a capacity-building grant from the Staunton Farm Foundation, a critical investment in our mission to strengthen the workforce and support systems that sustain social workers across Western Pennsylvania.

The SWAG Alliance Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Pittsburgh, is committed to uplifting the “heart work” of social workers—especially those from marginalized communities—through tangible, year-round support. This includes financial assistance for social work licensure, continuing education, mental health and wellness resources, professional development, and advocacy.

Why This Grant Matters
This capacity grant comes at a pivotal moment for our growing organization. As social workers continue to face burnout, low wages, and systemic barriers to staying in the field, we aim to build a stronger infrastructure that allows us to:

  • Increase outreach and support for under-resourced social workers in Western Pennsylvania
  • Launch new programming focused on burnout prevention and leadership development
  • Expand access to continuing education and licensure preparation for social workers at every stage of their career

“Social workers are the backbone of our behavioral health systems,” said Sharise Nance, CEO & Co-Founder. “This funding gives us the breathing room and capacity to better serve the people who serve everyone else.”

Spreading Awareness & Impact
With this support from the Staunton Farm Foundation, the SWAG Alliance Foundation will be able to elevate conversations around burnout, workforce sustainability, and mental health equity within the profession, while offering real resources to help social workers not just survive, but thrive.

Let’s Work Together
If your organization employs social workers or is invested in strengthening the social work workforce, we’d love to connect. We welcome collaboration opportunities that align with our mission to improve retention, reduce burnout, and invest in the future of the profession.
