HEALTHY START, INC. PITTSBURGH AWARDS FUNDING TO 10 COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVANCE PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA

PITTSBURGH, PA, April 13, 2026 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Healthy Start, Inc. Pittsburgh is proud to announce that 10 community-based organizations across Pennsylvania have been selected to receive funding through the Maternal Mental Health Mini Grant initiative, supporting community-driven efforts to expand access to mental and behavioral health services for pregnant and postpartum individuals and families. This work is supported through a $3 million investment from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to expand access to perinatal behavioral health services across the Commonwealth. The selected organizations are:

  • Bev’s Pgh
  • Beyond Transcendence
  • Folamis Oasis
  • Health Educated Inc
  • MAYA Organization
  • Oshun Family Center
  • PA Diaper Bank
  • Preventative Measures Foundation
  • Purple House Project
  • Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas

Each organization will implement short-term projects, initiatives, or events aimed at improving mental health education, increasing access to care, and addressing social determinants of health for birthing people and families in Healthy Start service areas.

“Too many families are navigating pregnancy and postpartum without the support they need,” said Jada Shirriel, CEO of Healthy Start, Inc. Pittsburgh. “We’re investing in organizations that are already trusted in their communities and making sure that support is accessible, not out of reach.”

This funding opportunity is part of a broader collaboration among federal Healthy Start grantees working to improve perinatal mental health outcomes across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Projects will be implemented over a three-month period, with a focus on reaching communities experiencing disparities in birth outcomes and access to mental health care.
