This event will be comprised of two parts: The Community Appreciation Benefit on Friday, October 29th, at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum’s Trolley Station. The VIP Social, which includes food & wine is 5:00-6pm and the Economic Awareness Day will be at the Carnegie Library of Homewood-Brushton from 11:00am-4pm the next morning, October 30th, 2010.
The Economics Awareness portion will provide mini-workshops based on financial literacy & planning, entrepreneurship support, credit education, diet/health/insurance, basic procedures on property acquirement in the area, & more! There will be an African market of vendors, information tables, book signings, poetry reading, displays of youth entrepreneur and other trade projects, step performances, motivational speakers, impersonation of George Westinghouse, and the highly requested “Real” Homewood tour! The Appreciation Benefit will say thank you to areas of service in education, community service, and service in business. Rick Adams and Esther Bush will be the MC’s. There will be musical selections from Nelson Harrison, Brother 2 Brother, students from the Afro-American Music Institute, and the Westinghouse Lighthouse program and more!
We will be honoring and spotlighting: Robert Burley, Lance Carter, Sr., George A. Webb, Sr., Angels Car Care Center, Henderson’s Barber Shop, Family of the late Art Burns for the Southern Platter, The Carnegie Library of Homewood-Brushton, Nate Smith, National Opera House, and the YWCA of Homewood-Brushton!
The Economics Awareness session is free. The Appreciation Benefit is $45 for VIP tickets, which includes food, and $20 for just the program. Free for all children! Vendors welcome! (Please call 412-243-7083)
