AIRHEADS BALLOON ART, INC. WINS BIG IN DESIGN COMPETITIONS AT INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

Pittsburgh, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — On November 4 through 8, 2009, Airheads Balloon Art, Inc. attended the FLOAT International Balloon Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, and took part in two of the conference’s décor competitions. The yearly convention of balloon artists includes classes and lectures on balloon design and competitions for balloon creations in miniature sculpture, large sculpture, entryway, centerpiece, and freestyle categories. Airheads Balloon Art won prizes in both the large sculpture and entryway categories.

Airheads received a first place prize in the entryway competition. The assigned theme for this category was music, and Airheads Balloon Art developed a punk rock-style entryway that included mohawked, safety-pinned, and hand painted balloon letters spelling out P-U-N-K, plus two10-foot-tall balloon columns in the shape of arms wearing spiked wristbands.

Airheads took second prize and won the Delegates’ Choice award for their large sculpture in a break dancing theme. ABA Lead Designer David Weiss created an immersive balloon experience that included a large boom box, a moving break dancer, and a “brick” wall all made from latex balloons. Not only was this a large piece at 10 feet square by 12 feet high, but while most competition pieces say “do not touch,” this one encouraged it. The balloon artists from Airheads Balloon Art encouraged fellow convention goers to write on their balloon wall with markers, and once on the “sidewalk,” viewers unknowingly tripped an audio feature that would play one of 20 different era-appropriate rap songs every time it was triggered.

Airheads Balloon Art, serving the Greater Pittsburgh area since 1999, has one of only 2,000 Certified Balloon Artists (CBAs) in the world on staff. According to the Qualatex Balloon Network, the organization that provides this certification, CBA hopefuls must, “demonstrate knowledge of and an ability to produce quality balloon work, and pass a series of written exams plus a practical exam administered by industry experts” before receiving official certification.

Photographs of the winning balloon creations, as well as more information about the company’s décor and delivery offerings, are available from the Airheads Web site at www.AirheadsBalloonArt.com. Reach them by telephone at 412-951-6050, or email inquiries to ContactUs@AirheadsBalloonArt.com.
