PR: Pittsburgh Fringe Festival Presents Second Year of Shows

Pittsburgh, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) —  Pittsburgh Fringe Festival returns for a second year of performances the weekend of May 8 to May 10, 2015 in multiple North Side venues, including Bistro to Go on East Ohio Street and nearby Max’s Allegheny Tavern. The 25 acts include Pittsburgh natives as well as artists from Kentucky, Massachusetts, and New York. Pittsburgh Fringe staff selected the participating artists at random on January 13 via an online party, complete with original Fringe music.

Each participant produces, markets, and presents an original or reimagined 30- to 90-minute show, resulting in a Pittsburgh or world premiere. Every artist or company of artists has the option to use the pre-arranged North Side spaces, to perform on the sidewalks, or to find an available space that is specific to the piece.

This year’s lineup includes a musical with puppets made from discarded elements, a blog-style solo piece about the everyday woman, an imagining of Hamlet’s “play within a play,” a multi-media, spoken-word performance with LGBT themes, a new version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and a stand-up horror show. Pittsburgh participants include Cheryl Capezzuti, Cup-A-Jo Productions, and Carnegie Screenwriters, and out-of town artists include ManDamsel and FellaLady as well as Paul Strickland. Some acts are appropriate for all ages while some are geared only toward adults.
