POISE FOUNDATION RECEIVES CAPACITY SUPPORT GRANT FROM THE MOMENTUM FUND FOR ITS CRITICAL COMMUNITY NEEDS FUND (CCNF)
PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com), September 30, 2020 — POISE Foundation announced today that it has recently been awarded a $65,000 grant from the newly-formed Momentum Fund to sustain and build capacity for its Critical Community Needs Fund (CCNF). The Momentum Fund is exemplifying a model of philanthropy that unapologetically centers racial equity and explicitly prioritizes the needs of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities as part of our national recovery from COVID-19. The Momentum Fund is made possible by support from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is managed by United Philanthropy Forum.
POISE Foundation was one of 129 organizations funded (out of an applicant pool of 757), totaling $8.5 million, bestowed by the Momentum Fund to 501(c)(3) organizations throughout the country managing COVID-19 relief funds that provide grants and other forms of direct support to community-run organizations working with communities of color, historically marginalized populations, and other groups being disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Only three grants were awarded to organizations based in Pennsylvania.
Mark S. Lewis, President and CEO of POISE Foundation commented: “This grant demonstrates that national funders recognize the critical work of POISE Foundation. The current crises have made it
clear: BIPOC organizations need unrestricted grant support and they need it now. We are proud to receive a grant from the Momentum Fund and look forward to working with United Philanthropy Forum and its partners to leverage additional funding to ensure genuine and lasting change”.
