NOTHING IS UNQUESTIONABLE AT THE INTERNATIONAL FREETHOUGHT FILM FESTIVAL

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — The International Freethought Film Festival is known for not shying away from uncomfortable topics. Official selections reflect any or all of the mission statement of promoting reason, critical thinking, and freedom of inquiry through film. The IFFF 2019 program presents a wide spectrum of freethought themes, and takes place from Friday, September 20 through Sunday, September 22, 2019. The weekend-long event includes nine feature-length indie films, 14 shorts and three filmmaker Q&A sessions. The film festival is being hosted at The Ahfis, located at 222 Blue Spruce Way in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

A Meet & Greet reception will kick off the 2019 International Freethought Film Festival on Friday, September 20th at 7:00 pm. Opening night will feature the independent documentary film, The Truth About Marriage, followed by a Q&A with Emmy nominated documentarian, filmmaker and editor, Roger Nygard. Joining the line up of filmmakers over the weekend is director Cam Cowan who will be in attendance to talk about his feature documentary, Madagasikara. The film examines the issue of the region prioritizing the self-interests of millionaires over meeting basic human survival needs of the masses. Director, Daniel Montoya and Ethan Avanzino—the subject of the short documentary film, Him—will conduct a Q&A following the Freethought Shorts program on Saturday, September 21st. Him follows the life of a transgender rights activist, Ethan, as he fights for equality in conservative Texas. Following the Q&A is the screening of feature-length documentary, The Public Enlightenment-Life After Death. This sub-titled Norwegian film highlights the world’s largest ever experiment that attempts to document communication with the dead. 2000 professional and amateur psychics/mediums from 26 countries, and half of all US states, attempted to read a sealed message in a safe, authored by a deceased volunteer who promised to communicate its contents as clearly as he could to anyone who contacted him after his impending death from cancer. After multiple screenings throughout the day on Sunday, September 22nd. The festivities conclude on Sunday night, with an after party at The Ahfis; sponsored-in kind by The Ahfis and Kegg Brewing Company.

The International Freethought Film Festival is a home for independent films from around the globe that critically examine truth-claims. Reason, logic, critical thinking and science are embraced as the best ways to explain the natural world; while superstition, dogma, tradition and argument by authority are rejected as justifications for practices, policies and behaviors that are often of detriment to humans and the earth. Freedom of inquiry and expression are boldly exercised.

“From social justice issues, to questioning claims of the ability to speak to the dead, our program continues to run the gamut of freethought subjects to spark dialogue.” said founder and executive director of IFFF, Andrea Steele-Meyer.

All access passes can be acquired for a suggested donation of $55 via Eventbrite. Day passes are also available for folks who may not be able to commit to the entire weekend. Ticket and event information is published on the International Freethought Film Festival Website www.freethoughtfilmfest.org.
