THE 100TH ANNUAL PITTSBURGH VETERAN’S DAY PARADE
PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — The 2019, 100th Anniversary of the Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade will be on Saturday, November 9th, at 1030 a.m. in downtown Pittsburgh. The parade will kick off at Liberty and 10th Avenue and head toward Point State Park.
Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Jack Wagner will emcee the 100th Annual Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade. Joining him onstage will be award-winning singer Rachel Manning, who will sing for this historic parade event!
All branches of the United States Military, along with veterans of WWII, prominent veteran service organizations, and high school bands will be featured in this year’s parade. For the first time in the parade, the 911th Airlift Wing, a U.S. Air Force Reserve unit based in Moon, Township, PA will be leading the parade. The new Commanding Officer Colonel John Robinson will serve as the Grand Marshall followed by the Plum High School Band, who will play the National Anthem at the reviewing stand.
The military units featured in the 100th Annual Veteran’s Day Parade are the U.S. Army Reserve’s 316th Expeditionary Support Command, the unit’s color guard, and their military vehicles; United States Navy Operational Support Center, Executive Officer Lt. Sam Colton with color guard; both units are based in Moon Township, Pa; the United States Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit, Commander Aaron Demo with a response boat from Bridgeville, Pa and the United States Coast Guard Cutter OSAGE Unit of Sewickley, Pa. The United States Marine Corps Recruiting Station Pittsburgh with color guard and Marine display!
Expect to see veteran contingents of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. In honor of our nation’s “Greatest Generation,” a strong representation of WW II Veteran’s section and World War II Honor Flight’s Veteran’s will travel the full parade route escorted by the First Frontier Mechanized Cavalry (FFMC), dressed in authentic World War II vintage uniforms. The FFMC will feature 20 World War II jeeps and trucks, wheeled armor, cannons, and a tank that are totally restored and fully operational. In addition, there will be skydiver’s with a flag and colored smoke landing at Point State Park at 1130 to mark this historical Veteran’s Parade!
The purpose of the 100th Anniversary of the Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade is to honor our local veterans, raise awareness of those who serve them, and to salute the men and women currently in service to our country. The Pittsburgh Veteran’s Day Parade is the second oldest Veteran’s Parade in the country.
