PITTSBURGH’S CIVIL ENGINEERING SOCIETY WINS NATIONAL HONORS
PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — The Pittsburgh Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) received the 2019 Outstanding Section and Branch Award presented by the National office of ASCE. Pittsburgh is being recognized for outstanding achievements in the areas of professional and technical educational opportunities, advocacy of the profession, diversity and inclusion, publications, and membership and social activities sponsored by the Section during the preceding fiscal year. Pittsburgh is a co-recipient of the Award for Large Sections, which recognizes Sections and Branches with 1,001-2500 members, alongside the Dallas Branch. It will be presented at the 2020 Multi-Region Leadership Conference on February 1, 2020 in Philadelphia.
The Pittsburgh Section has nearly 1,700 members, represents engineering and construction interests throughout western Pennsylvania, and hosts over 50 local events per year. Annual events include its Kick-off event and Life Member Recognition Banquet in the Fall, and the Engineers’ Week Awards Banquet each February. It celebrated its 100th year anniversary in September 2018 with a party and book launch for “Engineering Pittsburgh: A History of Roads, Rails, Canals, Bridges & More,” which features expert civil engineers and professionals narrating the story of the Pittsburgh region’s engineering triumphs. The Pittsburgh Section also won this award in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
