FOURTH ANNUAL WALK FOR FREEDOM SET FOR OCT. 14 AT PNC PARK
Pittsburgh joins 600 cities in 50 countries to raise awareness and funds for human trafficking

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — On Oct. 14, 2017, Pittsburgh will participate in a global fundraising and awareness event called the Walk For Freedom. The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness about the millions of men, women, and children who are still trapped in slavery today—only 1 percent of whom are ever rescued. By fundraising and rallying thousands of people around the cause, the belief is that this event will be the catalyst for the rescue and restoration of human beings who are being exploited as commodities.

With more than 300 walks in 40 countries around the world and more than 60 million people reached via social media in 2016, A21, a global anti-human trafficking organization, aims to raise even more funds and awareness with its Fourth Annual Walk For Freedom.

“We are so excited that this will be our largest and most impactful walk yet here in Pittsburgh. We want to help people learn and understand the reality of human trafficking and that affects our very own city and that together we can make a difference and help rescue those who are in slavery and also educate people to help protect others from the dangers or trafficking,” says Laura Mancuso, host of the Pittsburgh walk.

Walk For Freedom is distinctly recognized by its participants who are in single-file lines, wearing black shirts and yellow bandanas across their mouths. You’ll see these lines in places all over the world–from in front of the Eiffel Tower in France, to along the Hollywood Walk of Fame in America.

The Walk For Freedom exists to eradicate modern-day slavery, a global reality that affects every continent and economic structure. The goal of the walk is not to protest, hand out flyers, or simply stay fit. The goal of #WalkForFreedom is to take a united stance that will turn awareness into action. The true multiplication of this freedom message will be seen around the world through media coverage and pictures distributed on social media. To sign up for the walk, visit A21.org/pittsburgh.
