PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE SCHOOL TO HOST ‘SINGING SUNDAYS”
VOCAL PROGRAM BY WIMER MUSIC STUDIO

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Lisa Wimer should have seen it coming. Her middle school music program was thriving, with over 250 children in the chorus, more than 100 in the band and above 50 in the string classes that met every other day. Then the dismal news arrived. Cuts in the arts had reached her school. The tenacious teacher, arts-minded principal, unhappy students and outraged parents were able to keep the program alive for another two years, but finally lost the battle. Band and string classes were cut to once every 7 days. The chorus, orchestra and middle school musical were dissolved. Gone.

“As a highly-qualified and committed teacher (with distinguished ratings) guiding hundreds of equally committed, dedicated, and beautiful children, it had not occurred to me that our program could be decimated. I will never forget the tears of the heartbroken students or my own injured spirit at the sorrowful end to our time together.”

Music is essential in the lives of our children. It is not enough to feed the mind and body. We must also nourish the spirit. The Wimer Vocal Music Studio (housed at the beautiful Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School) will offer Children’s Choir as well as Voice Class for teens and adults on Sundays this fall. These classes are designed to provide a quality vocal music education at one fourth the cost of private lessons. Children will sing, learn and laugh in this program. They will experience the joy of new confidence daily as their hearts are filled with the “sound of music.”

“. . . the arts have been an inseparable part of the human journey; indeed, we depend on the arts to carry us toward the fullness of our humanity. We value them for themselves, and because we do, we believe knowing and practicing them is fundamental to the healthy development of our children’s minds and spirits. That is why, in any civilization – ours included – the arts are inseparable from the very meaning of the term ‘education.’ We know from long experience that no one can claim to be truly educated who lacks basic knowledge and skills in the arts.”
