PROGRAM PREPARES TO IGNITE NORTHSIDE

PITTSBURGH, PA
(PittsburghNewsWire.com) — New Sun Rising and Riverside Center for Innovation have partnered to launch the Ignite Northside program.  Ignite Northside is an innovative small business and community project development program focused on the Northside neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. The program is responsible for the identification of 75 community business and nonprofit project leaders in the coming year, while providing strategic mentoring and the connection with resources necessary to succeed.

The first development workshop for business and community project leaders will be held at Chateau Cafe and Cakery on March 19, 2016 from 11am – 3pm.  Interested applicants should visit www.newsunrising.org/.

“Ignite Northside provides the information, resources and opportunities that some may have considered constraints or barriers to reaching their next level of success.  Our programs help build collaborations, and embrace community, while meeting people where they are. These paradigms can lead to sustainable generational growth of hope, empowerment and action within all communities.” said Ebony McQueen-Harris, New Sun Rising’s Ignite Northside program manager.

Ignite Northside will provide 9 months of in depth, neighborhood-based workshops, with ongoing support for entrepreneurs via the Riverside Center for Innovation.  Ignite Northside engages emerging leaders and entrepreneurs from Northside neighborhoods in order to launch and grow their community projects and businesses. By developing supportive networks and implementing action plans, program participants will help to make the Northside community a better place with opportunity for all.

“Ignite Northside brings together a community of leaders and entrepreneurs who are going through the same ups and downs faced when starting or supporting a project.  By sharing ideas and collaborating together it makes you feel a sense of camaraderie…a feeling of I can do it”, said Jamie Johnson founder of Build You Up, LLC.

The program is supported by the generous support of the Buhl Foundation and Henry L. Hillman Foundation.
