Billy Price to Celebrate 50+ Years in Show Business at Syria Shrine Center, Cheswick, Pa. on October 1
 
 
PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Singer and bandleader Billy Price, who was inducted in 2016 to the Pittsburgh Rock Legends, will perform at the Syria Shrine Center in Cheswick, Pa. on October 1 at 8 pm.
 
The concert will celebrate the release of Price’s new 3-CD compilation, 50+ Years of Soul, which he released on GetHip Recordings on September 9. Vizztone recording artists the Gabe Stillman Band will open the show, followed by a set by the Billy Price Band, recently awarded for the second consecutive year in the Pittsburgh City Paper reader’s poll as the top blues band in the city. The show will close with another set featuring band alumni and special guests who have played a role in Price’s 50+ year career.
 
Tickets for the event are available at https://buytickets.at/syriashriners/712410/r/fb-evt-pst. Showtime is 8 pm. Early entry is at 6:30 pm, with first drink included. General admission doors open at 7 pm. Proceeds benefit Pittsburgh’s Syria Shriners.
 
October 1, 2022 has been officially designated as Billy Price Day in Allegheny County, Pa., in a proclamation signed by County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, dated September 30, 2022.
 
 
About Billy Price
2016 Blues Music Award (BMA) winner and frequent BMA nominee Billy Price first attracted national attention during his three-year association with guitarist Roy Buchanan. Price is the vocalist on two of Buchanan’s LPs, That’s What I’m Here For and Live Stock. Since then, with the Keystone Rhythm Band, the Billy Price Band, and solo projects, Billy Price has recorded and released a total of 20 albums, CDs, and DVDs.
 
Price’s album This Time for Real, with the late Chicago soul singer Otis Clay, received a 2016 Blues Music Award in the category of Best Soul Blues Album of 2015. His 2018 album Reckoning, produced by Kid Andersen at Greaseland Studios for Vizztone, was nominated for a 2019 Blues Music Award in the category of Best Soul Blues Album of 2018. His 2019 album Dog Eat Dog, also produced by Andersen, was nominated for a 2020 BMA for Best Soul Blues Album of 2019. He was also nominated for a 2020 BMA for Best Male Soul Blues Artist.
 
The Billy Price Band, based in Billy’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa., consists of Dave Dodd (drums), Tom Valentine (bass), Lenny Smith (guitar), Jim Britton (keyboards), Eric Spaulding (sax), and Joe Herndon (trumpet). They won the Pittsburgh City Paper Reader’s Poll in 2021 and 2022 as the top blues band in the city.

50+ Years of Soul by Billy Price is a 3-CD compilation of tracks selected by Price and remixed from recordings throughout his career as a singer, recording artist, songwriter, and bandleader.

WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Billy Price has been a vital part of the local cultural landscape, delighting Allegheny County audiences with dynamic and soulful performances with the Rhythm Kings, the Keystone Rhythm Band, the Billy Price Band and as a solo artist; and
 
WHEREAS, Billy Price has been and continues to be an ambassador for Allegheny County and its musical community when touring to other cities and countries; and
 
WHEREAS, Billy Price received the 2016 Blues Music Award (BMA) for Best Soul Blues Album of 2015 for This Time for Real and has frequently been nominated for BMAs for albums and as a vocalist; and
 
WHEREAS, in his long and illustrious career, Billy Price has released 20 albums, CDs and DVDs; and
 
WHEREAS, Billy Price educated Allegheny County radio listeners and exposed them to important “under-the-radar” roots and blues music recordings as a host on WYEP-FM; and
 
WHEREAS, Billy Price is celebrating the release of a 3-CD compilation, Billy Price: 50+ Years of Soul with a CD-release concert at Pittsburgh Shrine Center Pavilion on Saturday, October 1, now therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, that I, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim Saturday, October 1, 2022 to be “Billy Price Day” in Allegheny County.
