GENERAL CARBIDE CORPORATION ANNOUNCES FIFTH ANNUAL STUDENT SIGNING DAY

GREENSBURG, PA, May 11, 2026 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — General Carbide Corporation is proud to announce its Fifth Annual Student Signing Day taking place on May 14, 2026. The event will recognize graduating seniors from local high schools who have committed to beginning their careers in manufacturing with General Carbide following graduation.

What began five years ago as a single-student signing inspired by collegiate athletic commitments has grown into an annual workforce development tradition that celebrates students entering the manufacturing industry and highlights the strong partnership between education, community leadership, and industry.

This year’s event will not only celebrate the Class of 2026 signees, but will also recognize students from prior Signing Day classes and highlight the career journeys they have taken since beginning at General Carbide.
The ceremony will be held at the General Carbide Career Academy (1165 Woodward Dr, Greensburg, PA 15601) and will mirror the excitement and significance of athletic signing days, with students, families, school officials, elected leaders, workforce development partners, and company leadership in attendance.

Signing Day reflects General Carbide’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and investing in the next generation of skilled professionals through partnerships with local school districts, career and technical centers, workforce organizations, internships, apprenticeship opportunities, and hands-on student engagement programs.

Mona Pappafava-Ray, President and CEO of General Carbide Corporation, said, “It is incredibly rewarding to see how this event has evolved over the last five years. What started as a vision to celebrate students entering the workforce has become a meaningful tradition that reflects our commitment to developing future leaders in manufacturing. We are proud to continue creating opportunities for students to grow, succeed, and build long-term careers right here in our region.”

Jessica Gardner, Director of Human Resources, added, “Signing Day is about more than employment offers—it is about recognizing potential, celebrating opportunity, and showing students that choosing a career in manufacturing is something to be proud of. Watching former signees continue to grow within our organization makes this year’s milestone event especially meaningful.”
