Sharpsburg Market Garden Is Hosting A Harvest Celebration – And A New Name! Celebrating locally grown and shared food in the heart of the community.

SHARPSBURG, PA, August 31, 2026 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — What happens when a community grows food together? In Sharpsburg, they share it.

The soon to be renamed Sharpsburg Neighborhood Garden will host its 1st Annual Harvest Celebration on Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 124 13th Street, celebrating healthy food, good friends and the neighbors who make the garden grow. The free community celebration will feature food, activities and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the garden – a space where produce is grown by neighbors, for neighbors, and always shared free of charge.

And there is plenty to share. Recently, the garden distributed more than 100 pounds of fresh produce in just one week. Each year, more than 800 pounds of fresh, locally grown food makes its way from the garden into the community at absolutely no cost to residents. Produce is shared through the Second Harvest Community Free Fridge and Pantry, directly at the garden, and even with neighbors who simply stop by to visit or volunteer.

“Amid a digital world, the garden provides a shared haven where people come together to learn, cultivate, and harvest of plants,“ shares Giovanni Scolieri, President of the Sharpsburg-Aspinwall Rotary Club, a frequent gardener and dedicated volunteer in the Garden.

 

Formerly known as the Sharpsburg Market Garden, the garden’s new name better reflects what it has become: not a market, but a neighborhood resource built around food access, community participation and sharing.

The newly named garden is fiscally sponsored by Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization (SNO) and sits on a parcel of land graciously donated by the Borough of Sharpsburg. The garden is managed on behalf of SNO through a partnership with Tri-Borough EcoDistrict Food Justice Coordinator Joanna Tamburino.

What’s the ingredient that makes the Sharpsburg Neighborhood Garden thrive? The community of volunteers who help plant seeds, pull weeds, water the plants and tend to the harvest.
