GENERAL CARBIDE CORPORATION BUILDS MOMENTUM IN THE FIFTH YEAR OF LEARNING 2 EARNING WITH THE SECOND OF FOUR TOURS, CONTINUING TO INSPIRE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO EXPLORE CAREERS IN MANUFACTURING

GREENSBURG, PA, November 4, 2025 (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — General Carbide Corporation, in partnership with the Westmoreland County Forum for Workforce Development, is pleased to announce the second Learning 2 Earning tour of the 2025–2026 school year, scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2025. This event builds on the success of the first tour held earlier this fall and continues General Carbide’s commitment to bridging education and industry. The program offers students a firsthand look at modern manufacturing, providing hands-on exposure to advanced technologies and career pathways that drive innovation and growth in today’s workforce.

During the tour, students from local High Schools will have the opportunity to observe cutting-edge manufacturing processes, interact with industry experts, and gain insights into career opportunities in the sector. Students will be able to participate in a guided walkthrough of the production floor, discussions on technological advancements, and a Q&A session with company executives and engineers.

The student tour aims to bridge the gap between academics and the workforce with practical application by showcasing real-world scenarios and hands-on experiences within our facilities. Students will have the chance to interact with our knowledgeable staff, witness cutting-edge technologies in action, and gain valuable insights into various roles within our organization.
During the tour, students will:

  • Explore our manufacturing processes from powder to polish.
  • Learn about quality control measures and safety protocols implemented in our facility.
  • Engage in interactive sessions with our engineers and technicians to understand the technical aspects of our operations.
  • Discover diverse career pathways available in manufacturing, including engineering, operations management, quality assurance, and more.
  • Gain inspiration and motivation for pursuing careers in the trades.

“At General Carbide, we’re passionate about sparking interest in manufacturing among the students in our community. Opening our doors gives us the chance to provide hands-on, immersive experiences that bring this industry to life. By showing them the innovation and opportunities that exist here, we hope to inspire their curiosity and help them envision the many career paths available in manufacturing,” said Jessica Gardner, Director of Human Resources at General Carbide Corporation. “Our goal is to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders in the manufacturing industry by showcasing the exciting opportunities and advancements at General Carbide.”
Learning 2 Earning is designed for high school and college students interested in exploring careers in manufacturing and related fields. General Carbide hosts four Learning 2 Earning tours throughout the school year. The upcoming tour on October 2, 2025, will mark the first Learning 2 Earning event for the 2025–2026 school year.
Anthony Princeton, Coordinator with the Westmoreland County Forum for Workforce Development said, “General Carbide is a trailblazer for student experiences in Westmoreland county, and the Forum is proud to partner with them to bring year 5 of Learning to Earning to life. Their commitment to meeting students where they are makes General Carbide a premier partner, and future employer of Westmoreland County Students.”
Over the past five years, General Carbide has welcomed more than 125 local students through this program, resulting in 30 students securing full-time employment with the company upon graduating high school.

The Learning 2 Earning tours lead to General Carbide’s annual Signing Day, where graduating students transition into the workforce and launch their careers. This year, the company will celebrate its Fifth Annual Signing Day on May 2026.
