Mad Mex: The Gobblerito Turns 20!
To celebrate this milestone Gobble-versary, Mad Mex has compiled a series of Mad Facts:
If you stacked all of The Gobbleritos sold since 2006 end to end, it would equal the height of 14 Mount Everests!
Did you know that since 2006, Mad Mex has served up 3.36 million ounces of gravy? That’s enough to fill 26 fire trucks or nearly 1000 gravy baths!
If you lined up all of The Gobbleritos sold since 2006, they would stretch for over 80 miles. That line could go from Iceburgh the Penguin’s house to Punxsutawney Phil’s burrow!
Did you know that The Gobblerito was the brainchild of Mad Mex’s Food & Beverage Director, Matt Glick?
See Matt’s Q&A below for more saucy details!
For three-plus decades, the cuisine at Mad Mex has always been a blend of Mexican and southern Californian favorites combined in new ways to create “stuff that tastes really good,” says big Burrito President Bill Fuller. In recent years, new proteins have been introduced that draw inspiration from more traditional Mexican flavors that you’d find at a Mexico City taco stand. However, longtime fans know that the most famous dish of all isn’t even a little bit Mexican! The Gobblerito is Thanksgiving dinner stuffed into Mad Mex’s signature Pittsburgh-style square burrito, and guests flock to Mad Mex every fall for this regional delicacy.

The Gobblerito Turns 20! An interview with the creator of The Gobblerito.
Debuting in the fall of 2006, The Gobblerito was created by Mad Mex Food & Beverage Director, Matt Glick. We sat down for a quick chat about all things Gobblerito:
Q: Did you think at the time that this would become a Mad Mex legacy menu item?
A: I had no clue. I thought it was a fun idea, but never did I imagine it would blow up like it has. The first year we ran it Monday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week and when we were running out of ingredients quickly and had to start scrambling to keep serving them, it was apparent that we had something that we could build upon.
Q: What’s the future of The Gobblerito looking like? Any plans for a sequel?
A: I really never thought we’d be looking at 20 years of this item, so, another 20+ more and surpassing 1 million sold! As for a sequel, we have an awesome burrito that backs up The Gobblerito and runs through the holiday season, the Holiday Birr-ito that uses our Brisket Birria as the protein. I think it is equally as enjoyable but I get that it doesn’t have the ‘Thanksgiving’ feel.
Q: What’s your favorite ingredient of The Gobblerito?
A: It is hard for me to pick one favorite but I do always take a nibble of stuffing while it is being made.
Q: Is your family proud? Do your kids brag about it?
A: They are indeed. My kids think it is cool that I “invented” something.
Q: Are you recognized in the wild? Is is hard for you to go to a Mex without triggering the paparazzi?
A: Recognized because I’ve been here for so long…by some as Matt, by others as the creator of The Gobblerito.
Q: How many Gobbleritos do you eat each season?
A: I’ll have one per week I guess plus a lot of stuffing and turkey as a snack.
