PENN BREWERY SHAKES UP 19TH ANNUAL PENNSYLVANIA MICROBREWERS’ FEST,
ADDS NEW BREWERIES, VIP PACKAGE, AND BREWERY TOURS

PITTSBURGH, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — Penn Brewery is adding a fresh spin to its 19th annual Pennsylvania Microbrewers’ Fest this Saturday, June 6th with new breweries, new menu, a VIP package, and brewery tours.

“With so many new brewfests coming on the scene in the last few years, we really wanted to up our game,” said Sandy Cindrich, Penn’s president and CEO. “Most of these festivals are not held at actual breweries, and while the guests enjoy the beer, they don’t get to appreciate the full brewing process as part of the event.  We’ll be offering not just that highlight, but also the unique setting of our 150-year-old authentic German brewery building and biergarten. It’s the complete experience,” Cindrich added.

More than 25 craft breweries – many of them first-time attendees at the Fest – will be serving samples of their brews. Among the newcomers to the event this year are Grist House Brewing, Heavy Seas, and Spoonwood Brewing.

Also new this year is the Fest’s format.  In lieu of two back-to-back sessions, as the event had featured in years past, this year’s Fest will feature a single session running from 5-8 pm, with an optional VIP session including an additional hour from 4-5 pm. In addition, brewer-guided tours of Penn Brewery will also be offered.

Ticket options and pricing are as follows:

Basic ticket includes admission, commemorative sampling glass, all beer samples, a buffet meal (sandwich, side, and beverage), and live entertainment. Price is $50.

VIP package includes basic ticket plus early admission at 4pm, logoed pint glass (to be picked up at exit) and appetizers.  Price is $65.

Brewery tour add-on ticket: Penn’s brewers will lead tours of Penn’s brewing operations, including the brewhouse, fermentation cellar, and bottling & kegging operations.  Guests will also learn about the history of the brewery building, where beer was brewed beginning in the mid-1800’s by the German immigrants of Deutschtown. Tour includes one 16 oz. beer. Tours are limited to 25 people each and will be offered at three start times: 5:30, 6:30, and 7:00 pm.  Price is $10.

Great food and entertainment will remain a big part of Microbrewers’ Fest. This year’s all-new menu includes:

  • All-Day BBQ with Slaw
  • Turkey-Bacon Ranch Wrap
  • Roasted Veggie and Hummus Wrap (V)
  • Wiener and Kraut on a Pretzel Roll

All selections include chips.

Guests will also enjoy live music from The Commonheart, playing rock ‘n roll with heavy influences of blues, soul and gospel.

Microbrewers’ Fest is open to patrons 21 years of age or older only. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pennbrew.com. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Community Alliance of Spring Garden and East Deutschtown.

Penn Brewery, opened in 1986, is Pittsburgh’s oldest and largest brewery. It specializes in award-winning German-style craft beers sold in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, and New Jersey.  The Brewery is located in Deutschtown on Pittsburgh’s North Side, in the mid nineteenth-century landmark E&O Brewery Building.  The restaurant operates Monday- Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm, and Sunday 11am-9pm.
