FIRST WOMEN-OWNED GOLF COURSE IN PA HOSTS SCRAMBLE AND LGPA NOTABLE BERTEOTTI AS OFFICIAL LOCATION FOR WORLD’S LARGEST CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S GOLF

FREEPORT, PA (PittsburghNewsWire.com) — The public, especially women and girls of all ages and abilities, are invited to celebrate the fourth Women’s Golf Day (WGD), which launches on International Women’s Day, Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at River Forest Country Club in Freeport, Pennsylvania.

There is no more appropriate place to participate in WGD than historic River Forest, which has been designated an official site for WGD festivities. This year this championship 18-hole tract became the first majority-women-owned golf course in Pennsylvania. Co-owner Jamy Rankin serves as president of the LPGA Amateurs – Pittsburgh Chapter. Almost 250 years ago, pioneer woman Massy Harbison and her young children, who lived in a log cabin on the property, was attacked and escaped, with descendants residing nearby to this day. “Massy’s pioneering mentality inspires our effort to spread the gift of golf to women throughout the four counties touching River Forest,” Rankin said.

Women’s Golf Day promises to be the largest single day celebration of golf ever staged. For four hours on June 4, women and girls will gather at more than 900 venues in at least 52 countries to dedicate themselves to engaging, empowering and supporting women through the game of golf. River Forest Co-Owner Andi Irwin said, “We expect more than 50,000 females world-wide will mark the day by further developing the skills to enjoy golf for their lifetimes.”

Activities will include a golf scramble with shotgun start at 9 a.m. A luncheon catered by Lily’s at River Forest will follow, featuring guest speaker Missie Berteotti, who achieved great success in the LPGA and is among Western Pennsylvania’s most notable professional golfers. While still playing occasionally on the Senior Tour and building her career as a financial professional, Berteotti maintains her focus on children, her own son, a love of teaching, mentoring and developing the mindsets of other young golfers.

Entry for the scramble and luncheon is $50. The charge for attending the luncheon featuring Missie Berteotti is $30. Reservations can be made online at www.riverforestgolf.com or by calling 724 295 2298.
